Will you have an Open or Closed adoption?

Since both agencies promote open adoptions, we will have an open adoption. However (as mentioned previously) the level of openness is up to us.

When we have discussed openness with other adoptive couples (that have adopted), they say that with each of their birth mothers (one couple has three) their relationship and level of openness is completely different. The couples say that they have found themselves having a certain level of openness that they didn't think they would ever have. They say the different relationships with their birth mothers were all inspired by the Lord and that's why they're so different.

If we were to pursue adoption through H&W, an open adoption could have complications. A lot of times, the children through H&W have been removed from their homes and sometimes have older siblings (that did not need to be placed since they were of age). If we allow the child to have contact with their older siblings, we run the risk of their siblings taking them to their birth parents home-where there could be drug problems, abuse, etc.

Again, this is a matter to be taken to the Lord.
